Both volunteer and internship opportunities are available at the Office of
the Public Defender. Volunteers are needed to provide secretarial assistance, or
to work with the Client Services Program staff. The Client Services Advocate
interviews clients and assists in searching for available rehabilitative
programs that would best fit the client’s needs.
Students matriculating in degree programs
in law; pre-law; sociology; psychology; social work; paralegal studies; criminal
or juvenile justice; and, legal secretarial studies can gain substantive
professional experience through an internship. The Office is dedicated to
providing the experience necessary to fulfill the requirements designated by the
degree program where college credits are to be awarded for the internship. The
same degree of experience is provided to individuals who have an interest in the
legal field, but are not enrolled in a credit-bearing course.
